Library Manager Posting open until filled. Review of applications begins May 19, 2008 You have the basics but want to move to a higher level of challenge. You are an experienced and mature manager, committed to positioning libraries in the cultural, economic, educational and social life of their communities through strong partnerships with municipal officials and community groups. You have demonstrated planning, organizational and resource management skills and are an effective problem-solver and an exceptional communicator. More than this, however, you are also self-confident and self-motivated, comfortable in the political environment. You have a high tolerance for ambiguity and can build teams to deliver first class customer service. A focus on positive community and political relations and staff morale is critical. You will also be a lead player in developing a new library in the area. The Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) is seeking an enthusiastic, forward-looking manager to offer both stability and innovative leadership for the eight branches comprising the Upper Fraser Valley. The manager will be a key player in local community development and a member of the management team of the regional library system. Centered in Chilliwack, 100 kilometers east of Vancouver, this library region includes facilities in the communities of Agassiz (District of Kent), Boston Bar, Chilliwack, Hope, Yale and Yarrow, with a new library planned for Sardis. Home to almost 100,000 people, the area offers all the benefits of natural surroundings, family oriented neighborhoods and the convenience and facilities of a vibrant urban core, with a corporate commitment to efficiency, accountability and service for residents and businesses. The Fraser Valley Regional Library is British Columbia’s largest library system, serving 700,000 residents through 24 branches in 17 municipalities and regional districts from Boston Bar to Delta. Reporting to the director for client services, this position is excluded from the bargaining unit and offers a highly competitive ($69-88k) salary and benefits package. For further information, Library and community profiles and detailed position description, contact: Dr. Ken Haycock Resumes, with a cover letter stating clearly the position being applied for, may be sent by mail, fax or e-mail to the address above.
