Executive Director
Vancouver, British Columbia
British Columbia Library Association (BCLA)
Posting open until filled. Review of applications begins June 02, 2008
About the British Columbia Library Association (BCLA):
The BCLA is Canada’s second largest provincial library association with a stable membership and revenue base. As a major player on the national scene, it is particularly respected for its leadership in information policy issues. BCLA offers a wide range of services to its more than 800 members and is part of a pan-Canadian service initiative with other associations. Current priorities include improved communication tools for a more broadly based membership. Greater collaboration, affiliations, and partnerships with related organizations will also help to leverage membership and resources to make a difference for the broader library community. The BCLA offices are located in downtown Vancouver.
About the Successful Candidate:
Experienced in the library milieu, you understand deeply the library context and issues. The Association is embedded in the library community and faces many of the same issues: encouraging and involving younger members; succession management; inviting and motivating volunteers; expanding revenue sources; improving communication with all constituency groups; developing more effective advocacy. With your managerial experience and commitment to servant leadership you can work well with a committed volunteer board and a wide variety of members. At the same time you recognize your unique responsibilities to enhance the profile of the Association, to strengthen the membership base, to encourage flexibility and nimbleness, to develop new and strategic partnerships and to secure necessary resources. While skilled in project management and event planning, you also see the larger picture and the importance of positive relationships. Comfort with current technologies will enable many of the Association’s newer initiatives to move forward.
If this is your profile, the British Columbia Library Association offers a competitive compensation package and flexible working environment. For further information about the Association and a detailed position description, contact:
