Ken Haycock has been senior partner of Ken Haycock & Associates Inc. since its formation in 1991. Prior to that he was an independent consultant as well as a senior administrator.

Dr. Haycock is currently Follett Chair in Library and Information Science at Dominican University, adjunct professor at Queensland University of Technology and professor emeritus and former director at the San Jose School of Library and Information Science, the largest program in Library and Information Science in the world with more than 3,000 graduate students, and at the University of British Columbia’s School of Library, Archival and Information Studies. He was formerly a member of the senior management team of the Vancouver (British Columbia) School Board, responsible for curriculum development and implementation, resources and technologies, and staff development and training for 7,000 employees in 115 locations.

Ken Haycock received a B.A. (Political Science) and post-baccalaureate Diploma (Education) from the University of Western Ontario, a M.Ed. (Curriculum) from the University of Ottawa, an A.M.L.S. from the University of Michigan, an M.B.A. (Strategic Human Resources Management) from Royal Roads University and an Ed.D. (Leadership and Administration) from Brigham Young University.

Among his many professional activities, Dr. Haycock served as chair of the National Steering Committee for the American Library Association (ALA) Congress on Professional Education and was a member of the Presidential Initiative Task Force on Education and Training, the Committee on Education, the Committee on Accreditation, the ALA Council and the ALA Executive Board. He has also been president of many national and international associations, including the Association for Library and Information Science Education and the Canadian Library Association. Ken has also been a public library trustee with the Guelph (Ontario) and West Vancouver (British Columbia) Library Boards, an elected school board trustee for six years, and chair of the West Vancouver School Board for three years. He was also an elected councilor in West Vancouver. He is incoming chair of the ALA Committee on Accreditation.

Dr. Haycock has held several research grants and contracts and is the recipient of many significant professional honors and awards for research, teaching and service, including the American Library Association Herbert and Virginia White Award for promoting the profession of librarianship, the Canadian Library Association Outstanding Service to Librarianship Award, the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal for contributions to society and, from the Association for Library and Information Science, its Service Award and the Award for Professional Contributions to Library and Information Science Education. He was presented with the American Library Association’s Beta Phi Mu Award last year for distinguished contributions to graduate professional education.

In his consulting business, he has worked with several dozen for profit and not-for-profit organizations on program reviews, executive search, human resources issues and staff development. Clients include large urban public libraries, university libraries, law firms, school districts and colleges.
